Today's post features a very odd song I first heard 30 years ago, and hadn't thought about it in a long time. Here's how it came to cross my mind again last night.
Thinking of The Midnight Special reminded me of another show I used to watch during that same time period on Saturday nights - An Evening at the Improv (not the A&E version that ran until the mid 1990's, but an earlier syndicated version).
Thinking of An Evening at the Improv reminded me of the suggestively named band, "Human Sexual Response", who sang this song, "Land of the Glass Pinecones" one night on the show. I captured part of that performance on VHS tape that night, and one of my brothers and I watched it many times in the weeks that followed.
I'll admit it is a very weird song, and a strange band, but I still think it's a catchy tune, and I can recite most of the lyrics from memory.
Give it a listen below.
1. Have you ever heard of this band or song?
2. Do you agree that the song is catchy, or just think it's strange?
2. Were you a fan of either An Evening at the Improv or The Midnight Special?
